Course 1: Laparoscopic Suturing Simulation - A Reliable and Reproducible Technique
March 31, 2019 | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Course Director: Malcolm Mackenzie, MD
Course Faculty: Roa Alammari, MD,
 Elliot Greenberg, MD

This hands-on course is composed of two parts: a morning session devoted to suturing and knot-tying skill development, and an afternoon session devoted to skills application to the performance of a cuff closure and a myomectomy in a high fidelity simulation model. Each attendee works individually on a box trainer with monitor screen. Individual guidance is provided as needed to guide learners in their skills acquisition. This foundational course teaches a reliable, reproducible technique based on an understanding of the underlying geometric principles fundamental to the challenge of straight stick suturing and knot-tying. These principles are applied to progressive simulation from low fidelity to high fidelity, providing increasing challenge to the learner. The goal of this course is to provide surgeons with a reliable suturing and knot-tying skill that improves both surgical confidence to take on more complex cases and competence in the performance of the cases. Read More »

 Course 2: Quality Improvement Bootcamp
March 31, 2019 | 8:00 AM - 11:45 AM
Course Director: Robert Flora, MD, MBA, MPH

March 31, 2019 | 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Course Director: Rebecca G. Rogers, MD
Course Faculty: Danielle Antosh, MD, Cassandra Carberry, MD, Uchenna Ossai, MD

As surgeons, we have all heard the questions that our patients have regarding the impact of their pelvic surgery on their sexual function. Unfortunately, many of us are ill prepared to have this discussion or treat women who present after surgery with sexual complaints. This course presents the evidence as it exists regarding the impact of benign gynecologic surgery on sexual function, how to measure function before and after surgery and management techniques for women who present with sexual complaints following surgery. Our aim is to provide practical, easily applicable interventions for your office as well as guidance on an interdisciplinary approach to patients with more complex problems. Read More »

Course 4: Conservative & Definitive Surgical Strategies for Fibroid Management

Course Director: Arnold Advincula, MD
Course Faculty: Jessica Shepherd, MD, Mireille Truong, MD, Megan Wasson, DO, Hye-Chun Hur, MD, MPH

The exponential growth of advancements, both pharmacologic and technologic, in the area of uterine fibroids has made it increasingly difficult for both clinician and patient to decide on the best course of action. This course is designed to explore the various options available to clinicians with a special focus on both conservative and definitive surgical techniques. Nationally recognized faculty will also review the requisite workup of patients and discuss methods for peri-operative optimization and use of targeted drug therapy. Finally safe and efficient tissue extraction techniques during minimally invasive procedures will be addressed. Read More »
