Course 4: Conservative & Definitive Surgical Strategies for Fibroid Management
March 31, 2019 | 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

The exponential growth of advancements, both pharmacologic and technologic, in the area of uterine fibroids has made it increasingly difficult for both clinician and patient to decide on the best course of action. This course is designed to explore the various options available to clinicians with a special focus on both conservative and definitive surgical techniques. Nationally recognized faculty will also review the requisite workup of patients and discuss methods for peri-operative optimization and use of targeted drug therapy. Finally safe and efficient tissue extraction techniques during minimally invasive procedures will be addressed.

Course Objectives:

1) Formulate techniques to enhance the performance of myomectomy or hysterectomy for the large myomatous uterus.
2) Analyze relevant options, indications, principles and techniques for safe and contained tissue extraction during minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
3) Review strategies for peri-operative optimization in patients undergoing conservative or definitive surgery for fibroids.
4) Appraise newer interventional modalities such as radiofrequency ablation and drugs such as Tranexamic Acid and Ulipristal.
