Come join in the fun at the SGS Social Events at the 45th Annual Scientific Meeting! The fun begins with a casual beer and wine reception late Sunday afternoon to meet up with your friends and colleagues.

 

 


President's Reception (Open to All SGS Attendees, Guests and Exhibitors)
Monday, April 1, 2019 | 7:15 PM - 8:30 PM

 

Dr. Rajiv Gala, SGS President, invites you to the President's Reception at the JW Starr Pass in the exhibit hall. Open bar and hors d'oeuvres. All attendees, spouse/guests and exhibitors are invited.

The reception is immediately following the SGS Awards Ceremony. The Awards Ceremony begins at 6:45 PM in the general session room. Make sure you mark this down on your schedule!


SGS Golf Tournament | Shotgun/Scramble Format - (Ticketed Event $189)
Tuesday, April 2, 2019 | 2:00 PM - 6:45 PM

Just steps outside of our golf resort in Tucson, this course offers unsurpassed views. With dramatic elevation changes and the swirling winds created by the Tucson Mountains, these nine holes will truly test players of all levels.

It is time to see who will unseat the reigning team champions: Chuck Ascher-Walsh, Peter Rosenblatt, Mark Walter and Drew Cassidenti, women’s closest to the pin winner: Catherine Matthews, men’s closest to the pin winner: Mark Walters, women’s longest drive winner: Wilma Larson, and men’s longest drive winner: Chris Ripperda.

The format will be a four-person scramble, eighteen-hole tournament where everyone hits a shot (the best ball is chosen, everyone hits the next shot from there and this continues until the ball is holed out. We encourage all to play as there is no pressure on anyone except to have a good time with our colleagues and cocktails on a beautiful golf course. The $189 fee covers the round of golf, golf cart, four drink tickets and prizes for the first and second place teams, longest drive: men and women and closest to the pin: men and women.

You may order rental clubs on the SGS registration site for only $55. This fee includes six golf balls.


Yoga with Mireille Truong, Movement Studio - (Ticketed Event $10)

Monday, April 1st from 3:00-4:00 PM or Tuesday, April 2nd from 4:00-5:00 PM
Mats and bottled water will be provided

Come join me for a Vin/Yin Yoga class!

Class will start with a Fun Vinyasa Flow and end with some Chill Yin yoga. It's the perfect combo to relax, renew, stretch, decompress from the meeting and prepare for the evening events. Vinyasa flow will focus on linking conscious breath with a vigorous and mindful flow complemented by a yin practice that promotes joint health, can prevent injury, encourages balance. Yin yoga focuses on lengthening connective tissue typically in the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Postures are typically held for 3-10 minutes fostering relaxation, boosting energy.

Class Level:
This class welcomes all levels. Options will be provided for students who are building their foundation as well as for those who are ready to challenge their practice.


Mountain Biking in Tucson - (Ticketed Event $100)

If you are looking for an active way to experience the real Arizona back country, then escape to the quiet beauty of the Sonoran desert aboard a modern, fully equipped mountain bike. The unpaved back roads and trails of southwestern Arizona wind through some of the most spectacular scenery of this intriguing land. Each guest will be accommodated based on his or her level of experience.

This tour is 2 hours long. Mountain Biking is conducted on trails located behind the resort.


Advanced Mountain Biking in Tucson with Home Grown MTB - (Ticketed Event $200)

Home Grown MTB is excited to host attendees of the SGS 45th Annual Scientific Meeting on April 2nd, 2019. This adventurous option will include a challenging mountain biking ride, leaving straight from the resort property, with some of the best terrain anywhere and on the finest all-mountain bikes.

Each rider will customize his/her experience by choosing a bike from our fleet of 2019 Specialized carbon full-suspension mountain bikes, including the all-new Stumpjumper with both 27.5″ and 29″ wheel sizes. Tucson riding is world renowned, and HG has the best bikes in town to make for a safe and super fun experience.  Road Biking in Tucson - (Ticketed Event $100)

Southern Arizona offers great winter biking on quiet roads in the Sonoran Desert with giant saguaro and other cacti, vast grassland prairies, pine forests and the rugged, rock formations of the surrounding mountains. Ride through the National Saguaro Park and experience the diversity the Sonora Desert can provide. Each guest will be accommodated based on his or her level of experience.

This tour is 2 hours long. Road Biking will depart from resort.


Arizona Guided Hike - (Ticketed Event $75)

The extremity of the terrain and the harshness of the environment, makes a hike in the Tucson Mountains a unique and wonderful experience. This adventure will give you a real appreciation for the mesmerizing Arizona desert. The diversity of plants and wildlife that coexist in the Sonoran Desert, affirm the balance of nature. Your guide will share the flora and fauna and the incredible vistas.  All plans are taken care of and we supply the necessary materials. Your only duty is to enjoy your visit with nature!

This tour is 2 hours long. Hike is conducted on trails located behind the resort.

SGS' Got Talent

*Back by Popular Demand* You are invited to attend the second annual SGS Fund Development Activity..."SGS' Got Talent". Enjoy some very special entertainment, food, music and fun as we raise awareness and funds directed towards the SGS Mission to Advance Research and Education. This event will feature the special talents within the SGS community. That's right! We are featuring your colleagues best solo or group talent at the SGS' Got Talent show. You may even see the 2018 SGS Got Talent winner, Emily Davidson, come back up on stage to wow the SGS audience. Votes for your favorite act will be collected by donations. Click HERE to sign up yourself or your group to hit the stage at the "SGS' Got Talent" event.

Tickets purchased in advance start at $75. VIP tickets start at $125. VIP tickets holders receive a special Tequila Tasting and closer access to the SGS' Got Talent stage. A portion of each ticket sold to this event will go towards the SGS Mission to Advance Research and Education.

You and your colleagues will strap on a bungee cord and dive into the pool of balls to collect the most balls in a specified period of time.
