Fellows Pelvic Research Network

What is FPRN®?

In 2007, the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons (SGS) sponsored the creation of the first fellows’ multi-center research network, the Fellows’ Pelvic Research Network (FPRN)®, to advance research training and provide fellows with experience in conducting multi-center studies. The FPRN® represents a key initiative that supports SGS’s mission to promote education and research in gynecologic surgery.

The purpose of the FPRN® is to create an environment where fellows can engage in collaborative research and conduct multi-center studies as principal investigators. Through participation, fellows strengthen their knowledge and skills in study design, multi-center study implementation, data management, and statistical analysis. The FPRN® and its research projects operate under the mentorship and supervision of an Advisory Board that includes representatives from each supporting organization.

  • How Does FPRN Work?

There are currently two subgroups within the Fellows’ Pelvic Research Network (FPRN)®: the AUGS–SGS FPRN® Subgroup and the FMIGS–SGS Subgroup. Prior to each FPRN® meeting, members are invited to submit project proposals. Proposals are reviewed by the Steering Committee and Advisory Board. A maximum of 10 proposals may be accepted for presentation and consideration at the meeting. New projects are voted upon by FPRN® members following presentation. Projects are selected for funding bason upon presentation feedback, voting results, alignment with the FPRN® mission, and study feasibility.

  • Join FPRN

FPRN® is open to fellows from accredited and non accredited programs across the United States and Canada who have an interest in collaborative research.

  • FPRN® Structure

Each FPRN® subgroup is led by an elected Steering Committee consisting of a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary/Treasurer, and Website Administrator. All committee roles are held by fellows who are active members of the FPRN®. In addition, an Advisory Board of senior members provides mentorship and strategic guidance to each subgroup.

Subgroups meet twice annually at each supporting organization’s annual meeting: the SGS Annual Scientific Meeting in the spring and either the AUGS PFD Week or AAGL Congress in the fall.

AUGS–SGS FPRN® Subgroup

The AUGS–SGS FPRN® Subgroup, established in 2014 as a collaboration between AUGS and SGS, focuses on advancing research in urogynecology and pelvic floor function. The purpose of the AUGS–SGS Group within the FPRN® is to provide fellows with a collaborative, multi-center research environment dedicated to pelvic floor disorders.

FMIGS–SGS FPRN® Subgroup

Established in 2015 through a partnership with AAGL, the FMIGS–SGS FPRN® Subgroup integrates FMIGS fellows into the SGS Fellows Pelvic Research Network (FPRN®), providing opportunities to participate in multi-center research that advances minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and pelvic health. The subgroup promotes a collaborative, evidence-driven environment that supports both clinical and educational excellence.
