Fellow Scholars Program
The SGS Fellow Scholars Program, initiated in 2014, is supported by the Nancy Frankel & Lennie Siegel fund and the Dee F. Fenner Education Fund. The program fosters the next generation of surgeons by providing access to education and mentorship opportunities within SGS.
Each year, selected Fellow Scholars are invited to attend the SGS Annual Scientific Meeting, with the following expenses covered:
- Airfare reimbursement
- Meeting registration
- Hotel
- 1-year complimentary Associate Membership
During the meeting, Fellow Scholars will:
- Be provided registration to attend at least one postgraduate course.
- Attend the Senior Members Engaging Young Learners (SMEYL) Reception.
- Participate in the Fellows Pelvic Research Network (FPRN)® meeting.
- Be recognized at the SGS Awards Ceremony.
- Post about their experiences during the SGS Scientific Meeting on social media.
Eligibility Requirements. This program is open to all gynecology fellows currently registered in both accredited and non -accredited programs across the United States and Canada. The program is designed specifically for applicants who meet the following criteria:
- Not yet an SGS member
- Not attended an SGS meeting
- Not yet engaged in SGS volunteering or research activity
Application Materials. Applicants must submit (1) a personal statement of interest (about 250 words) about why they would like to be an SGS Fellow Scholar, how they plan to engage with SGS in return, and how this opportunity might enhance their career path, (2) an abbreviated CV or bio-sketch, and (3) a letter of support from their program director. Applicants must also describe their expertise with social media.
Scoring Criteria. Applicants will be reviewed/scored based on the Personal Essay, Letter of Support, and Future potential with SGS
The annual program is announced in December, applications are reviewed in January and recipients announced on or about February 1.
