Dear SGS Members,
I wish all SGS members and friends a happy and joyful summer – as they say, once the July 4th holiday comes and goes, summer flies by!
I will again say that I am honored to be serving as SGS President and happy to provide another update on SGS businesses and leadership discussions.
Annual Meeting: The 2027 Scientific Program Committee, led by Dr. Mireille Truong, Chair, is working diligently and creatively to produce another excellent and informative program for our SGS March 2027 meeting. We hope to see all of you at the La Cantera Resort in San Antonio. You may have recently seen invitations to submit your abstracts, videos and simulation projects – please spread the word and help us have the greatest number of papers presented in March 2027!
New Highest Impact Paper Award: In May 2026 the Executive Committee approved a new Highest Impact Article Award which will identify the highest-impact article published by SGS research engines over a two-year period, with all research engines including PAG included in the consideration. The Executive Committee agreed that the new Highest Impact Paper Award include a $500 prize (consistent with other paper awards). Read more about this award later in this newsletter.

National Strategy to Close the Women’s Health Gap: In June, SGS was invited to join the Women First Research Coalition (WFRC), the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) to lend our endorsement to a landmark federal initiative: the National Strategy to Close the Women’s Health Gap.
This initiative is a call on Congress to make a transformational investment in women’s health and an opportunity for organizations across different women’s health issues to come together in support of efforts that will improve the lives of millions of Americans and their families. The women’s health gap is not only a matter of equity—it is an investment in the health, productivity, and economic strength of our nation.
In short, this will call on Congress to make a $20 billion ten-year strategic commitment in America that will close the women’s health gap. While this effort is aspirational, we also believe it’s a necessary investment that we will continue to push across Congressional sessions and Administrations.
The National Strategy to Close the Women’s Health Gap is structured around five pillars of investment:
- Research and Innovation
- Regulatory Coordination and Modernization
- Clinical and Research Workforce
- Data and Evidence Infrastructure
- Public Awareness and Education
