Communications Committee – Podcast Subcommittee
Oversees the Society’s communications channels to effectively engage both current and prospective SGS members and ensure all content remains accurate and up to date. The committee is seeking one member to join the Podcast Subcommittee to assist in planning, producing, and reviewing content for SGS Scalpel Sessions, the Society’s official podcast.
- Current Vacancy: 1 Member to serve a three-year term on the Podcast Subcommittee, starting June 2026. This position may be filled by an Associate, Associate Post Training or Active Member.
Education Committee
Assesses the needs of members and non-members with input from the Board of Directors to identify those services and product opportunities that bring value to the Society. After approval of projects by the Board, the committee will develop programs, products and services that support the SGS strategic plan and will work closely with SGS staff to identify resources to design and implement them. - Current Vacancy: 1 Associate Member to serve a three-year term, starting June 2026.
Finance Committee
Oversees and advises the Board of Directors regarding all financial matters of the Society. The Board of Directors must approve policies developed by the Finance Committee. The committee serves a crucial role in reviewing the annual budget and interacting with and coordinating activates with the Investment Advisor.
- Current Vacancy: 1 or more Active Members to serve a three-year term, starting June 2026.
Industry Advisory Group
Helps to maximize potential collaborations with industry that would best serve SGS membership and the success of the Society. The IAG serves as a bridge between the SGS Board of Directors and industry partners to best serve the interests of both parties. The IAG aids staff in promoting current education and research sponsorships and soliciting industry support for the SGS mission. The IAG seeks representation from a variety of surgical subspecialities.
- Current Vacancy: 1 or more Active Members (terms on the IAG are up to three-years and start dates may vary).
Membership Committee
Reviews new member applications and submits recommendations to the Board of Directors. The committee is also the primary group charged with recruitment of new members in general gynecology and in all subspecialty areas of gynecologic surgery (with special attention to encouraging applications from under-represented minorities), retention of current members, and fostering mentorship programs.
- Current Vacancy: 1 Active Member and 1 Associate Member to serve a three-year term, starting June 2026.
Nominating Committee
Performs an essential role in heling identify and select future leadership of society, and candidates who have broad familiarity with SGS members are particularly sought. Candidates for service on this committee must have been Active or Life Members in good standing for a minimum of three (3) years and have previously served on the Board or an SGS Committee.
- Current Vacancy: 1 Active Member to start June 2026, to serve a two-year term.
Publications Committee
Reviews and approves all documents intended for dissemination which emanate from works done by groups within SGS and bearing the SGS name. The committee reviews documents from the Systematic Review Group (SRG), Pelvic Anatomy Group (PAG), the Fellows Pelvic Research Network (FPRN) and the Collaborative Research in Pelvic Surgery Consortium (CoRPS).
- Current Vacancy: Up to three Active Members and 1 Associate Member to serve a three-year terms, starting June 2026.
Research Committee
Promotes and communicates high quality research in gynecologic surgery and helps facilitate evidence-based practice for all gynecologic surgeons. The projects undertaken by the Research Committee may be suggested to the Board of Directors for approval and/or may be designated by the Board of Directors based on the Society’s current needs. The Research Committee officially oversees SGS Research engines including the Systematic Review Group (SRG), the Fellows Pelvic Research Network (FPRN) and the Collaborative Research in Pelvic Surgery Consortium (CoRPS). The committee is also responsible for review, selection and approval of requests for survey distribution at the SGS Annual Scientific Meeting. and acting as senior advisors for the SGS Fellows Pelvic Research Network.
- Current Vacancy: 1 Associate Member to serve a three-year term, starting June 2026.
Women First Research Coalition (WFRC)
SGS is one of 16 organizations that are members of the Women First Research Coalition (WFRC). Through the coalition, SGS has a voice in impacting women’s health legislation and can weigh in on legislative or other key issues (e.g. NIG Restructure, NICHD Strategic Plan, NASEM reports, White House initiatives). SGS may periodically be asked to join amicus briefs or learn about these from collaborating members and to network with other members and learn about their advocacy efforts.
- Current Vacancies: SGS would welcome seasoned researchers (or others with dedicated interest) to participate and it is important that any chosen members be available on the first Wednesday of each month at 5pm Eastern for a half hour meeting. More information can be found here.
