Greetings SGS members and friends! As President of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons, it is my honor to invite you to join us at the 44th Annual Scientific Meeting in Orlando, FL from March 11-14, 2018. The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is an outstanding destination resort with golf, amenities, and close proximity to both Disney and Universal. I know I’ll be looking for some warmer weather in Florida after a long winter in Minnesota. Dr. Andrew (Drew) Cassidenti and the SGS Program Committee have put together an outstanding program that will focus on physician leadership at a high level, while bringing an informative, exciting and educational program for the scientific meeting and postgraduate courses – something you have come to expect from SGS!

The theme of this year’s meeting is “Leadership: Leading Best Gynecologic Surgical Care into the Next Decade”. Our keynote lecturer, Dr. James Merlino MD (author of Service Fanatics, How to Build Superior Patient Experience the Cleveland Clinic Way) is former Chief Experience Officer and Colorectal surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic and currently President and Chief Medical Officer, Strategic Consulting at Press Ganey. He will discuss how to build and lead superior patient and physician experience programs at your institutions and hospitals. Our TeLinde lecturer, Dr. Amit Sood, from Mayo Clinic (author of The Mayo Clinic Guide to Stress Free Living) will discuss ways to build resilience and take care of yourself, something we all could improve. If we are going to lead, we need to know the playing field and how to manage the stresses that come with our busy lives. Our panel discussion will bring together top surgeons from across gynecologic surgical specialties to discuss what they see as the future of gynecologic surgery. Dr. John DeLancey will discuss 3D anatomy for the gyn surgeon. Following this the SGS debate this year will focus on best practices in the management of advanced stage prolapse – hear what the experts say and see if it fits your practice. Finally, after a successful launch last year, we will celebrate the “Mentorship Mingle 2018” program, bringing together registrants and members who can have a friendly chat and rub elbows with the giants in gynecologic surgery. As Dr Vivian Sung said last year, “SGS has a special feel, a special sauce.” I agree. It brings together gynecologic surgeons from all regions and realms. It is great science, great surgery, and great times at the meeting and all the social functions. It is truly an honor to represent this society.

The oral, poster and video submissions are at an all-time high!! We have exciting and valuable Postgraduate courses with experts in our field. Come early to learn about coding, managing the vaginal apex, simulation, managing endometriosis, and care for urogenital anomalies. Round tables will cover the spectrum of gyn surgery. In short, this is an opportunity you cannot miss. Please join us to establish new friendships, renew old ones and learn the latest in physician leadership and gynecologic surgery – and you can even “Honor Your Mentor.” I look forward to hosting you all in Orlando in 2018.

My best to you all,

John B. Gebhart, MD, SGS President
