ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS

ENHANCING YOUR POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS WITH SURGICAL IMAGES

Peter Rosenblatt, M.D. - Course Director

Proctors - Lisa Dabney, MD Roger Goldberg, MD
Rick Jelovsek, MD Charles Rardin, MD Roger Smith, MD

Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:

Work with a variety of images (including prints, slides, and digital files) to insert and modify into PowerPoint presentations.

Use digital cameras appropriately, in terms of resolution, lighting, macro and other settings, for getting the best images into presentations with the least amount of memory.

Place video clips from digital camcorders and video cassette tapes into PowerPoint presentations.

This course is designed for those physicians who already have some experience with the basics of PowerPoint presentations. In this course, we will discuss how to get a variety of image types, such as prints, slides, x-rays and digital files into PowerPoint, to enhance your presentations. We will also discuss several methods of effectively demonstrating surgical procedures in PowerPoint. Participants will have the opportunity to work with surgical images throughout the course on their laptop computers. We will demonstrate cropping, changing brightness and contrast, and customizing animation of still images in PowerPoint. In addition, we will discuss the use of video segments in PowerPoint presentations. We will demonstrate methods of capturing video during open and endoscopic procedures and discuss the basic elements of video editing. We will also discuss the presentation itself – and the use of LCD and DLP projectors.

Although not a requirement for attending, participants should consider bringing their own laptops (with CD-Rom drive) to the course, so they themselves may perform the steps discussed throughout with the CD-Rom provided. A recent version of PowerPoint is recommended, in order to maximize the course experience.
